On-Premise vs. Cloud Insurance Software: What Corporates Should Weigh

SAIBA Corporate · 2 September 2026 · 5 min read

When you choose insurance portfolio-management software, one question comes up early: should it run on your own servers (on-premise) or on the vendor’s cloud? Here are the trade-offs that actually matter — and why they shouldn’t cost you extra either way.

The deployment question

Both models run the same software; the difference is where your data lives and who operates the infrastructure. The right answer depends on your data-residency obligations, your IT capacity, and how fast you want to be live.

On-premise: residency and control

Running on your own infrastructure keeps program data entirely within your environment — useful where regulation or policy requires strict data residency, or where security teams want full control. The trade-off is that patching, backups and availability are yours to manage.

Cloud: managed and fast

A managed cloud deployment removes that operational load — updates, backups and availability are handled for you, and you can be live in days rather than after an infrastructure project. The trade-off is that data sits with the vendor’s cloud provider, so residency and security posture matter.

Security applies to both

Deployment isn’t a security decision on its own. Look for the same fundamentals in either model: encryption in transit and at rest, strict multi-tenant isolation, role-based access, and alignment with the OWASP Top 10. On-premise gives you control; cloud gives you a maintained baseline — neither is automatically ‘more secure’. See our Security page for how we approach it.

Cost considerations

On-premise shifts some cost to your own hardware and IT time; cloud folds infrastructure into the subscription. The bigger cost, though, is usually the pricing model — per-seat and per-module fees add up fast. A single, aligned price avoids that whichever way you deploy.

How to decide

If you have firm residency requirements or a capable IT team that wants control, on-premise fits. If you want speed and no infrastructure overhead, cloud fits. What you shouldn’t have to do is pay more for the choice.

How SAIBA Corporate handles it: the same platform runs on-premise or on SAIBA Cloud — your choice — at the same simple, aligned price. Deployment is a preference, not a pricing lever.
